The Purpose

 

The Smile Gallery is an NZACD event organised to provide intelligent and constructive comments to the entrant to foster their growth and development in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry.

Photographs

 The Print…
  1. Please provide photographs in the standard 4’x 6’ print size
  2. For those using digital cameras we recommend printing your pictures with a dye-sublimation printer or a high quality inkjet printer (utilising professional quality paper).

However, the bottom-line: Take any pictures you want that you feel effectively demonstrates the quality of the treatment you have provided.

 

Please Note: The photographic contest will not only be judged on the quality of the clinical result but also the dentists/technicians ability to record (photograph) the case(s).

 

Synopsis

 The Treatment…

Provide a brief description of:

  1. Treatment outline
  2. Materials/techniques you have used.  Eg. In the case of indirect restorations, impression materials used, cementation technique, & finishing/polishing technique.
 The Camera Settings…

Provide a brief description of:

  1. The photographic equipment used.  Eg. Digital/film format, lens & flash type
  2. The camera settings you have used.  Eg. Automatic/manual settings.  If using manual setting include ISO setting, aperture, shutter speed settings & relevant flash settings.
 Printing…

Provide a brief description of:

  1. Type of printer used
  2. Type of paper used
 

In the true spirit of fair play it is inappropriate to use photo-imaging software to enhance your photographs.

 Case Selection: Emphasis should be placed on work quality not case complexity. Fooling the Eye…

The goal in this category is to restore a tooth so that it aesthetically integrates with the surrounding tissues and the dentition.

 
  1. You may select an anterior or posterior tooth
  2. A single unit case would be ideal.  Eg. Single veneer/crown or Class IV restoration (with at least 25% tooth structure being replaced)
  3. Use either a direct (aesthetic composite) or indirect (aesthetic porcelain) restoration.
 Smile Creation…

The goal in this category is to treat multiple teeth to aesthetically enhance a person’s smile.  Treatments need not be the most complex but must demonstrate the clinicians knowledge of smile design and skill in manipulating aesthetic restorative materials re-establish a new smile.

 
  1. Treatment of multiple anterior teeth (at least 6 teeth)
  2. Use either direct (aesthetic composite) or indirect (aesthetic porcelain) restoration
  3. Multiple diastema closures, realignment of the arch form, replacement of older fillings/crowns
