Course Breakdown - About Dr Corky Willhite - Course Registration

If you want to improve your ability to provide beautiful and conservative restorations, this course is designed for you. There is so much involved in accomplishing beautiful and long-lasting direct resin restorations —whether a small Class IV or a dramatic smile makeover with full veneers —a two day course can’t possibly cover it all. Dr Corky Willhite has been teaching direct resin courses for many years, and now, he has combined and enhanced those courses into a Continuum dedicated solely to direct resin.

The most versatile of all restorative materials, composite is still underutilized in 99% of dental practices because it presents challenges that the dentist can’t share with a laboratory technician. A dentist’s success with basic operative restorations doesn’t always translate into success with more complex restorations and full resin veneers. A trial and error learning curve isn’t a cost-effective way for busy doctors to master this technique. Yet once the skills are learned, even 10 full veneers done directly can be predictable and profitable while conserving much more tooth structure than porcelain veneers.

Everything you need to know about Direct Resin Technique is covered in this 3- part continuum from “A” (case selection) to “Z” (how to maintain the beauty of resin restorations for many years). Plenty of time will be spent in the details of these important techniques and then practicing them, hands-on. Direct Composite Restorations provide the most versatile technique available for making minor or major changes in dental appearance. With proper technique, their function and longevity rivals porcelain while providing benefits other procedures can’t match.

This comprehensive workshop will benefit each attendee by sharing an organized step-by-step approach that includes operative technique as well as vital diagnostic and marketing skills.

Fully half of our time will be spent on hands-on exercises! You’ll do the hardest things to do in the  mouth: a full veneer to brighten a dark tooth so it matches the adjacent teeth, a large Class IV, and a diastema closure. Using mounted models, even a full mouth rehab case will be restored with direct resin-rebuilding incisal and canine guidance and opening vertical dimension. Maximum function and ideal esthetics is achievable with direct resin. With the knowledge and skills shared in this continuum, you’ll be able to offer your patients more (and better) options. The hands-on portion is designed to give you the confidence to immediately incorporate these improvements into your practice.

The NZACD is proud to be able to bring back Dr Willhite to provide what will be the most comprehensive course of this type ever to be held in NZ.  It will cover the same material taught by Dr Willhite in his 6 day continuum taught at the Cosmedent teaching facility in Chicago.  Dr Willhite has a reputation for clinical excellence and his continuum is fully subscribed every year by dentists striving to provide composite restorations of the highest quality to their patients.  The course fee is the same in NZ dollars as what is charged for his US course and compressed to reduce your travel and the time away from your office

Course Breakdown

Day 1 & Day 2 (Friday & Saturday, July 25th and 26th) - Queenstown:

• Rationale for using composite--even for major cases and non-compliant patients

• Comparing composite to porcelain in terms of strength and longevity

• Esthetic treatment planning—using a practical system to quickly determine the best smile for each patient and deliver excellent function

• Enhancing tooth topography for the most natural look (learn each tooth's specific key contours to prevent the "Chiclet" look)

• Anterior guidance—how to build it or restore it to last

• When to open vertical dimension and learn a more predictable way to test to assure comfort and success

• Excellent margins that prevent microleakage, staining, and recurrent decay

• Transitional Bonding: a review of the 2007 lecture of this extremely practical technique utilizing composite for any type of case—even complex full mouth rehab cases!

• Hands-on exercise - treatment plan and build the "best smile possible" for a patient using mounted models (including building anterior guidance and opening vertical dimension using composite). Essentially accomplish a full mouth rehab in composite —using transitional bonding — to apply the critical principles covered on above. This will make future cases easier and more predictable to successfully complete — even if the plan is to eventually finish the case in porcelain!

Day 3 (Thursday, July 31st) - Auckland:

• Layering the resin, tints and opaquers to achieve natural translucency and color—for Ultimate Esthetics

• Step-by-step procedure for changing the colour of an individual tooth

• Quick repair technique for any surface defects including voids, air bubbles, or scratches

• Polishing technique for an incredibly natural finish

• Hands-on exercise - layer the materials to change an extremely dark tooth to a naturally bright and vital direct resin veneer

Day 4 (Friday, August 1st) - Auckland:

• Step-by-step procedure for individual tooth changes (Class III, IV, and V restorations)

• How to provide solutions for common problems (worn teeth, peg laterals, and diastema closure)

• Verbal skills that will gain patient interest and increase patient acceptance

• Maintenance for many years of happy smiles!

• Hands-on exercises - attendees will do a Class IV and a diastema closure — including the "mylar pull" technique

Day 5 (Saturday, August 2nd) - Auckland:

• Learn a predictable technique to create smooth, sub-gingival margins with ideal emergence contour when treating diastemas

• How to determine fees for profitability

• Verbal skills to motivate patients, especially those who are hesitant to “drill on their teeth”

• Advanced surface effects (hypocalcified effects, craze and crack lines, perikymata)

• Hands-on exercises - practice these advanced surface effects techniques
