About Dr Gerard Kugel DMD SM FAGD FADM FACD FICD
Dr Kugel is Associate Dean for Research, and Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. With an expertise in Clinical Research and Aesthetic Dentistry, he is a reviewer for the New England Journal of Medicine, JADA, Journal of Aesthetic Dentistry, Aesthetic Technique and the Dental Advisor, and on the Editorial Board of Practical Periodontics and Aesthetic Dentistry, Contemporary Aesthetics, Compendium, The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, The American Journal of Dentistry, and The Journal Of Adhesive Dentistry. Dr Kugel is also on the advisory boards of Signature and Restorative Quarterly. He is a Fellow in the American and International Colleges of Dentistry as well as the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dental Materials.
Dr Kugel received his BS from Rutgers University in Biology and Psychology. He received his doctorate in dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr Kugel also received his MS from Tufts in the Department of Anatomy and Cellular Biology at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.
Dr Kugel has published over 75 articles and 120 abstracts in the field of restorative materials and techniques. He has given over 150 lectures both nationally and internationally. Dr Kugel is part of a group practice, the Boston Centre for Oral Health, located in Back Bay Boston.
Course Summary
This course will review the principles of aesthetic dentistry as they relate to tooth form and function.
• Tooth position, contour and shape will be related to occlusal function, lip line and incisal edge location.
• Direct adhesive restorative materials and techniques.
• Advances in adhesive dentistry, especially sixth generation (and beyond) will be discussed.
• Can we eliminate post-operative sensitivity by improving our bonding techniques?
• Procedures for improved anterior and posterior direct adhesive restorations are covered.
• The do’s and don’ts of all ceramic alternatives, what to do and when to use them.
• Porcelain laminates veneers, from prep to cementation, along with potential pitfalls and the ways to avoid them.
• Tooth whitening in-office, light activated and over-the-counter, how do they work and what is best for my patients?
This course will rely on evidence and not hype. It is geared for dentists and their staff.
