The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - is it Zirconia?
LECTURE SYNOPSIS:
Crowns made of zirconia are becoming more common and they are more biocompatible for some patients. Like many of our dental materials there are advantages and disadvantages of this material. Now in 2020, situations where we wish to use a metal free indirect restoration are available. The laboratories are providing the material zirconia as an option in which dentist are taking the material to the limit. On all laboratory lab sheet forms and independent milling machines several zirconia options are available. A discussion on the latest materials associated with zirconia will be discussed in depth. There is good research to show the bonding of zirconia to tooth structure is now predictable. A discussion of the various brands available for bonding and cementing to zirconia will be presented.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will gain knowledge on the various types of indirect zirconia materials on the market. A guideline on where to use certain types of zirconia, from anterior to posterior. The pitfalls of using indirect zirconia and problems with zirconia. Bonding or cementation of zirconia, when and where.
