SPEAKER: Mr Steve Shepherd
TOPIC: Vital Pulp Therapy - Part 2: Four clinical cases and prognostic factors that determine success
VENUE: NZDA House, 195 Main Highway, Ellerslie South, Auckland 1051
SYNOPSIS:
Considering the high prevalence of deep caries lesions the treatment of exposed pulps can be assumed to be daily routine for most practitioners. Thus, in case of exposure of the pulp, dentists are faced with the decision to either perform direct pulp capping (DPC), partial pulpotomy, full pulpotomy or to immediately initiate root-canal treatment (RCT). The prognosis for these procedures will be discussed along with the long term viability – as well as how this can fit into the general dental practice in New Zealand.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Understand case selection criterion
- Prognostic factors determining success
- Where to stop the pulp amputation
- Placing materials – Lid technique
